Elderly alarms: a reassuring solution for independent living

Our range of emergency alarms for the elderly and vulnerable are designed to offer flexible and affordable peace of mind and can assist with independent living. With care alarms that can raise an alert if needed when in the home or garden, or elderly care alarms that work when you’re on the go anywhere in the UK, we have an option that’s right for everyone.

Who is the emergency alarm system for?

Tell us who will be using our personal alarm service so we can help you choose the best care alarm for your circumstances.

How can care alarms help you?

It’s a disturbing fact that 1-in-3 people over 65 will have a fall this year1. Falls can have a long-term effect on confidence, impacting independence and mobility.

Taking Care's alarms for the elderly will help you remain independent by providing a way to get help, day or night, in any emergency. Research has shown that having an emergency alarm device reduces overall hospital admissions in older adults by 50% and by 44% where admissions were due specifically to falls2.

What is an elderly care alarm?

  • A personal alarm for seniors provides a way to call for assistance should you fall, feel unwell, have a medical emergency or be in distress.
  • By pressing the button on one of our emergency alarms for seniors, you are quickly connected to our 24/7 Emergency Resolution Team, who will arrange help from nominated contacts or the emergency services.
  • You can choose a care alarm with wearable options and features to suit you.
  • Some personal alarms for seniors can be worn as a pendant or around the wrist like a watch.
  • Features like automatic fall detection and GPS tracking, along with always-in-reach emergency buttons for the elderly, provide extra reassurance to help you live independently.

How does our personal care alarms service work?

Not everyone has family or friends who live nearby and can respond in an emergency, or you may not want to rely on them.

Our personal alarms for seniors can help anyone who wants to continue leading an independent and active life, not just the elderly or vulnerable. Emergency medical alarms and other alarm devices also fall under the category of personal alarms.

Independence when you want it; help when you need it

  • When our expertly trained Emergency Resolution Team receive an alarm call, they will know who is calling and from where.
  • The Emergency Resolution Team will speak with the care alarm user directly through the alarm equipment.
  • Even if the elderly alarm user is unable to speak, the team will have the alarm user’s emergency contacts and medical information to hand.
  • They will quickly assess the situation and a family member or friend will be contacted if help is required.
  • If medical assistance is needed, or family and friends cannot be reached, then the emergency services will be called.

On the occasion when my father sadly fell and broke his hip during the night, I received the SOS call within moments from an operative who appeared genuinely concerned and interested in my Dad's welfare. I highly recommend their service and consider the costs they charge to be very reasonable, considering the excellent service they provide and the reassurance it gives.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best emergency alarm for seniors?

The best emergency alarm for your needs will depend on your lifestyle and personal preferences for the type of elderly care alarm you want. There are a variety of different features available that will suit different individuals and your requirements.

Some of the considerations for choosing the best emergency alarm for your needs could include:

  • Whether you want an elderly care alarm for your home or one that also works when you’re out and about.
  • Whether you want certain features such as GPS tracking or automatic fall detection.
  • How you would like to wear your emergency alarm, such as a pendant alarm around your neck, or worn like a watch on your wrist.

Find out more about different types of elderly alarm devices.

What happens if I press the button on my elderly care alarm by accident?

If you press the care alarm alert button by mistake, don’t worry. Simply wait for someone from our friendly Emergency Resolution Team to speak to you and then tell them that it was a false alarm and you don’t need any assistance at this time.

Can I take my personal alarm for seniors away with me if I stay with family or go on holiday?

Whether or not your personal alarm for seniors can be taken away with you will depend on the specific type of emergency alarm you have and what its capabilities and features are.

Some of our products, such as Taking Care Anywhere, are designed to work anywhere in the UK so you can take it with you if you holiday in this country.

Some of our other products are designed to work only in the home/garden and have an installed base unit in your home that cannot be taken away with you.

What happens if I lose or break my elderly care alarm device?

If your TakingCare emergency alarm device develops a fault, we will fix this as part of our subscription service. If you lose your alarm device or it is accidentally damaged, we can provide a replacement if you contact our Customer Service team.

Call Customer Services (Monday - Friday, 9am-5pm) on 0800 085 7371 if you need to order a replacement elderly care alarm device.

Is an alarm for seniors better than a mobile phone?

A personal alarm for seniors can often be a more straightforward way to get assistance in an emergency than using a mobile phone. Some of the reasons for this include:

  • An alarm for seniors is worn, so it’s always there if needed and can’t be put down or forgotten like a phone may be.
  • A single button press will raise an alert on an elderly care alarm, with no need to unlock a phone, search contacts or dial for help.
  • Some older people find mobile phones and smartphones very complicated to use, so prefer to have a straightforward alarm with one button to avoid any confusion and save time in an emergency.
  • Many personal alarms for seniors come with a long battery life, so the devices don’t need to be charged as often as mobile phones do.
  • TakingCare alarms are monitored 24/7, every day of the year, so are always there if an alert is raised. With a mobile phone, family members or friends that you would call may be asleep or otherwise unable to take the call, so help might not be reached in an emergency.
